Wanted Live in Volunteer based in South London, Tooting, SW16

HAIL is a voluntary organisation that supports people with a learning disability. We are looking for a volunteer to live with a young man with a learning disability who has just moved in to a modern 2 bedroom flat opposite Tooting Common. He would like to share his home with someone friendly and practical who can support him gain the confidence to live more independently.

We are looking for someone who:

• enjoys being with people
• is fun and friendly
• has good communication skills
• would like to develop their knowledge of working with vulnerable people
• are able to commit to being at home at set times for up to 30 hours a week and to be in the flat over night.
• can offer practical and emotional support
• are available for 6-12 months
• speak a good level of conversational English
• enjoy working with people and have good communication skills
• are flexible, responsible and reliable
• has knowledge of Urdu and Islam or are interested in learning about different cultures.

We offer:

• rent free (shared) accommodation with all utility bills and council tax paid
in a desirable location opposite Tooting Common in Wandsworth
• a weekly living allowance to cover food
• a zone 1 to 3 travel card
• induction, training and ongoing support and supervision
• a chance to gain experience and meet new people

Hail is a voluntary organisation supporting people with learning disabilities and other vulnerable adults to live within the community. We strongly believe that our stakeholders should be supported to lead and determine their own services and to have access to opportunities that support real choice and development.

We would want our service users to be supported by people who have a big commitment to empowering people to live within the community that have values which support true equality for people with a learning disability and other vulnerable people.

We recognise that providing housing and support is important, but life also involves having opportunities to work, learn, to feel safe and manage risks and to have relationships.

In Hail we like to make a difference to people’s lives, and make things happen for people.

We are looking for:-

SESSIONAL BANK SUPPORT WORKERS

Paid at £7.80 per hour with enhanced rate for sleep-in duty.

• You will be required to work in any of HAIL’s services. This will include working in projects managed by HAIL and in service users own homes.
• Your work will be on a sessional basis.
• You must have a recent CRB.

In return we offer training, accreditation to the Learning Disability Qualifications (LDQ) and a qualification to become a LDQ Assessor for Managers and access to a recognised contributory Pension Scheme.
