Values and Goals

HAIL has a mission statement:

"HAIL's goal is to provide services that enable people with a learning disability to participate in the mainstream of life. Living in ordinary houses, in ordinary streets: alongside other citizens with the same choices. Mixing as equals with others, and being members of their own community"

We have values which direct the way that we work. HAIL believes that people with a learning disability should:

  • Have the right to be present in the community and live in ordinary housing
  • Be enabled to make choices and make decisions for themselves
  • Be supported to develop their skills and competencies
  • Be enabled to gain self respect and the respect of others, and to have equal status within their community
  • Be enabled to choose and develop valued relationships with other non-disabled and disabled people
  • Be protected from abuse

Our services are provided on basic principles, services for people with learning disabilities should:

  • Be person centred with the service user leading the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of their own service
  • Involve the service user, their family and carers, and advocates
  • Be easily accessible and be non exclusive
  • Be delivered locally
  • Be reviewed to enable future choice
  • Recognise and celebrate achievement
