What we do:

Travelmate is a service which employs people with learning disabilities to support others to travel using public transport. This provides peer support and paid employment for people with learning disabilities and/or Autism.

HAIL travel training teaches and enables people to travel independently using a range of methods which are suitable for the individual. HAIL travel training works with all age groups.

HAIL travel services understand that people may worry about safety when travelling on public transport. We support people to travel safely and independently by:

  • Working closely with Transport For London, the police and transport companies on the First Route scheme. Being part of the safe places scheme and ensuring all staff and trainees have ID.
  • Running skill sessions that will teach you, how to travel safely during the day or at night.
  • Teaching wheelchair safety on public transport.
  • Using specialist training techniques for people who have fears about using public transport.
  • Working closely with families, schools and other support networks to ensure a joint approach to supporting people to travel.
  • Using a range of communication, techniques and approaches.

HAIL travel services are based in Wandsworth and Haringey but can work throughout the whole of London.

HAIL travel services can also support you with your application for a freedom pass.

HAIL is always hearing from people with learning disabilities and/or Autism who may be interested in becoming a Travelmate. We offer Travelmates full training including accredited training and paid employment.
